How You Can Help
Community Television in developed countries on our planet has been in existence for many years and has evolved into subsisting, thriving, job creating organizations. This system works extremely well in areas of the country that have a seemingly endless source of funding.
TVCR, Television Community Rec. is structured under the North West River Recreation Commission, which in turn is answerable to the Town Council of North West River. A small community with a small tax base. Have you ever seen the cartoon where the federal government piggy bank gets drained to the provincial government, to the municipal government and at the end are the poor starving volunteer groups left with nothing but the scraps. Hey, wait a minute, THAT'S US!!
Through three dedicated individuals, with nothing more than hard work for collateral, we acquired an abandoned building, relocated it, took out bank loans to renovate it and to buy some low budget production equipment, we proceeded to faithfully run community bingo's to pay the bills out of our meager profits. With our heads barely above water we applied and received a grant to produce a mini-series featuring local entertainment, all in the name of giving birth to community television in Labrador.
We have attainable visions of where our organization will be in the future. The amount of financial support we receive will dictate how slowly or how quickly we will obtain our goals.
RESOURCEFULNESS
All profits acquired by TVCR are in turn donated back into the community to local charities who receive absolutely no funding (i.e. Volunteer library, church, etc.)
We live in isolation in the poorest province in Canada where limited population translates into limited funding resources
Labrador, as part of the province of Newfoundland, has a land mass covering 294,330 sq. km of unmatched rugged beauty. Contained within are 32 thriving, yet isolated, communities where access to most is by small aircraft, boat or snowmobile in winter. The majority of communities cannot be accessed by automobile or road.
TVCR is trying to raise money to provide basic production equipment, a signal sharing transmission system between three communities and finally a satellite up-link system to provide community television to all communities in Labrador. This challenge will help us decrease the isolation and increase local programming. (i.e. locally produced shows, good news stories)
If you can provide financial assistance, investments, broadcast equipment or know of a funding source which will help us out of our isolated predicament, please e-mail us.
For your contribution we can provide a charitable receipt, free advertising, monument in your name. etc.
If you would like to help us in our struggle or have ideas for strategy which will free Labrador from isolation (isn't it great we finally have Internet), we'd like to talk to you just click on the Email Icon.
